This work was created in April 2018.
"Black Girl Magic and Science" is a fan art piece depicting Storm from Marvel's XMen and Shuri from Marvel's Black Panther. Although we mostly see Shuri with robotics, I replaced her arm cannon with a more simple and recognizable symbol for science. The bubbles made a great decorative element to balance Storm's lightning bolts. Shuri must have studied chemistry, too, right? My plan was to also give Storm a black witch hat to balance Shuri's white labcoat, but in the end I left it out because I just couldn't bear to cover up her wonderful white mohawk. (But don't think I didn't experiment with a topless witch hat!) I really enjoyed the faux-screenprint-offset style I utilized here and I will probably use this for more of my digital work.
